Moorewood Park - Waukesha, WI
I spotted the first morning cloak butterfly of the year at Moorewood Park, in Waukesha this past weekend. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, I made the trek to check out this community park and it was well worth the visit.
The entrance of this 22 acre park features a children's playground, and an open-air picnic shelter, surrounded by woodland. Just beyond the park shelter is a rustic nature trail that wanders through the woods, along a creek, and loops around for just under a half-mile. It's slightly hilly in parts, but an easy walk. Perfect for kids for sure.
Although it's a short walk, it's a wildly scenic one. There's plenty of birdsong along with the gentle sound of water flowing through the creek, and a wide variety of trees. There are park benches for resting/relaxing as well. I'm looking forward to another visit this spring, when the trees have leafed out and the migrating birds have arrived.
Hours: Open daily, sunrise to 10pm
Fees: None
Parking: Street parking only
Location: 609 Rempe Drive, Waukesha, WI (Waukesha County)
