Springs Park - Delavan, WI
Several years back we were driving through Walworth County looking for a good spot to go hiking. And then the car died. We spent the better part of an afternoon waiting for a tow truck to come find us, on some random rural road. Fortunately, the surroundings were pretty, the weather was pleasant, and there were lots of birds flying about. So, we could at least enjoy the scenery while waiting for the tow. The car was a goner, but at least our impression of the area was a good one. We've since been back several times, as it turns out the area is chock full of parks and preserves.
Springs Park is a 33-acre public park in Delavan, and part of the Swan Creek Corridor Trail System. I visited this week, for a bit of a wander on the walking trails along Swan Creek, where the trees were decked out in new leaves, and the water was sparkling in the afternoon sun. Spring migration was evident, as Ruby-crowned Kinglets and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers hopped through the tree branches. Chickadees, Cardinals, Robins, Common Grackles and Red-bellied Woodpeckers called from above, too. Early spring wildflowers and butterflies were a welcome sight.
The park is divided into upper and lower areas. The graveled pedestrian and bike trails of Lower Springs Park are low-key, an easy walk, and peppered with the occasional park bench for resting and enjoying the view. It was just about a mile from the parking lot on E. Washington Street and back. Upper Springs Park features a children's playground, horseshoe pit, picnic shelter, and a restroom facility (in season), and has a parking lot located off of S. Terrace Street.
Parking: Lots at both Upper and Lower areas.
Hours: 24 Hours
Pets: I could not find any signage, or any regulations online with regards to dogs being allowed in the park.
I did meet several dog owners walking their pets along the trails, on-leash. It seems like a great dog-walking park to me.

Boxed & Burlap
Coffee Shop, Event Venue On my way to Springs Park in Delavan, I stopped off for a bit of iced coffee, and a snack at Boxed & Burlap. This locally owned cafe' and special event venue (wedding, anyone?), has a comfy yet elegant modern farmhouse vibe. And the coffee and treats are delicious. The coffee shop is located in the main building, with bright and open windows, lots of natural light, and a cozy atmosphere. The baristas are cheerful, and willing to share their knowledge of the area. The one who served up my iced latte knew well of Springs Park, and offered a few tips and impressions, which were most appreciated. There's a charming patio with outdoor seating next to wide open green space, and a large building perfect for hosting weddings and parties. They even have a small greenhouse style building for rental that can host small groups, or serve as a photo-ready dressing area for a bridal party. They have a small retail merchandise area, and recently opened a coffee shop and retail space in downtown Delavan. Something to check out on my next trip back to the area.
